He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to ArabizeDarfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it. announced the resignation of First Vice President Ali Taha on Saturday, state media reported; the first move in a cabinet reshuffle to be announced later in the day. ![]() "(He) resigned to make space for the youth and there are no conflicts between us," state media quoted Bashir as saying. Taha had announced in November that the government plans to carry out a major cabinet reshuffle, a move apparently aimed at appeasing protesters after fuel price increases provoked the country's worst unrest in years. The government cut fuel subsidies to ease a financial crunch aggravated by the secession of oil-producing South Sudan in 2011. Dozens of people were killed and more than 700 placed in durance vile Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try! when protests erupted after pump prices doubled overnight. |
