Turmoil in the Middle East creates a lumber buying buffet for China
2013-09-25
Very informative background information on how the turmoil in Egypt and Syria (and other ME destinations) affects lumber market in ME. There is a huge amount of lumber that used to go to Egypt that is redistributed to the ME, but turmoil there completely messed up that market.

Now China is becoming a big market that is replacing ME destinations. War has lots of unintended consequences. In this case, for Russia, Canada, and the US.

#1  In China, the lumber is used to build structures that will burn down or collapse in earthquakes / floods / storms.

In the middle east, the lumber is converted directly to sawdust to make filler for the subsidized bread...

Snark of the day.
