| Local Taleban leader killed in Karachi raid | |

They said personnel from the Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of the police killed the commander, identified as Hazrat Ali, during an early morning raid in the Manghopir area, after intelligence reports that some TTP militants were hiding there. Chaudhry Aslam, who leads the AEC of the police, said he raided the area along with his men on a tip-off from a source regarding the presence of the militants, and that weapons and hand grenades were recovered during the action. He said on seeing the police party, the militants opened fire, to which the police responded and arrested an injured Ali after a brief encounter. He was taken to a hospital where he died. Aslam said seven of AliÂ’s accomplices managed to flee, taking advantage of the early morning darkness. He also said that the dead militant and his companions belonged to the TTPÂ’s Hakimullah Group. | |
