Breaking: Egypt security forces storm pro-Morsi camps
2013-08-14
Security forces have started to clear pro-Morso protesters who have been camped out on the streets of the capital, Cairo, since the Egyptian president was deposed by the military last month. On Wednesday, live footage showed smoke engulfing Nahda square and there were reports of tear gas and birdshot being used.

"I see a lot of black smoke and helicopters circling," said Al Jazeera's Dorothy Parvaz, reporting from Cairo.

The action follows weeks of warnings from the interim leadership that force would possibly used to clear the protesters.
More from al-Arabiya. Besoeker notes this link from the BBC in which the troops are using up-armored D9s.

Update at 1120 CT: 149 dead per AP.

#13  The key word is martyr. That's how they fight. The perfect weapon in this day of worldwide PR where every death is a tragedy, assuming it's the tragedy that supports your ideology.

#10  Looks like civil war between MB and the secularists.

I suspect it's gonna be more like Black September or the last time the Egyptian Army oppressed the baddies and brought back the tourists.

Night of the long knives.

#9  Got any of those Libyan weapons left for the MB?

I think Hamas has that covered, but figure on a new battle front opening up in western Egypt soon.

#8  Looks like civil war between MB and the secularists. Most likely it was unavoidable after Mubarak was deposed. Thanks, Obama. Got any of those Libyan weapons left for the MB?
