| Dagestani lawmaker arrested for ties to Islamist insurgents |

| A lawmaker representing the ruling United Russia party in the parliament of the Russian republic of Dagestan has been arrested for alleged links with Islamic Magomed Magomedov was detained on June 27 during a break in the parliamentary session. The Dagestani leader's office confirmed the reports but refused further comment. Magomedov is a member of the parliamentary committee for interethnic relations and religious issues. Lawmakers immediately voted to expel Magomedov from parliament. |
