#2 Lot of the 'waste' is caused by corrupt kleptocracy that runs most of the worlds governments. Try moving food or medicine or basic infrastructure without having to bribe someone.
As for disposable people, that's been the record of human pre-history and history for vast majority of its existence. It's a situation generated by primate hierarchical behavior not material things which only reflect that inherit posturing.
