Democrat Defends IRS Targeting of Traditional Marriage Group
2013-06-07
[CNSNEWS] Calling the tax-exempt status of the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) a "charade," Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) said it should not qualify for 501(c)(4) status with the Internal Revenue Service, because it is not a social welfare group but political in nature.

"It's everybody's right to participate in politics, and well you should," Blumenauer said on Tuesday at the House Boodle Central hearing into allegations that the IRS targeted conservative organizations, including NOM. "But I think having organizations parading as being social welfare organizations and then being involved in political combat harkens back to why the (IRS 501(c)(4) statute -- a hundred years ago -- said that they were prohibited, and I wholeheartedly agree."

Citing Rep. Lloyd Doggett's (D-Texas) remarks that the statute should be reinterpreted to restrict political activities of 501(c)(4) groups, Blumenauer said the current law "invites people to raise vast sums of money and keep it secret and to engage in political activity."

#6  Yeah, next they'll threaten to arrest anyone who says something against regime policy...hey wait.

These are federal agents conducting financial violence against its own people. These are appointees so it even has that nice Royal Agents of the King feel to it.

Two little truths of life for those of you who think this is OK. If your good friend is bragging to you about how he screwed somebody, if you don't think he is screwing you, you just haven't figured it out yet.

Eventually somebody will fill this position who does not like some aspect of you.

#4  Abused by taxation without representation? Targeted for your beliefs by the IRS. If you are a Christian here, you are targeted by the Progressives for your beliefs. If you disagree with the regime, you are targeted for your beliefs and called a racist. Sounds like why the American Revolution occurred.

#3  In his opening statement, Eastman said the IRS had released the NOM's tax information in 2012 to the gay rights advocacy group the Human Rights Campaign, and although much of the tax documents were redacted, the names of donors were left in place. The HRC posted the documents on its website, Eastman said.

I believe we all know what is going on here and it is not good.

#2  I have a solution: abolish the whole concept of tax deductible contributions. Why should I - or taxpayers in general - effectively be subsidizing the organizations you support, and v.v?

#1  Sorry my friend, Earl, you are on the wrong side of the argument.

"Blumenauer said the current law "invites people to raise vast sums of money and keep it secret and to engage in political activity.""

Just like the Obama Administration does through its supporters, right ?
