The woman in red
2013-06-05

This is what police oppression in Istanbul looks like: the cop hits the woman in red with pepper spray. This is Erdogan's response to his people.

#14  Looks like in these pics the police are slightly down wind, and there are a lot of police pretty loose with their protective gear; not saying its looks like fun, but the pics in Newc's have the police a bit more diligent with their protective gear; likely using the full strength.

It is an effective propaganda photo series - defenseless middle age woman in national colors getting blasted and calmly walking away on her own. Even pic 4, though the policeman is veering towards another target to her left, looks like he is sticking it right into her back.

#13  Ok, the Mail has covered it. Still looks the same but some detail.

#12  All I see is the four photos covering a large paragraph of text Dr. White wrote. What setting do I have incorrect? Win7-Firefox.

Nimble Spemble and Barbara, what you're seeing is what you should. Dr. Steve posted the four photos and a two-sentence comment below. All he wrote was, "This is what police oppression in Istanbul looks like: the cop hits the woman in red with pepper spray. This is Erdogan's response to his people."

#9  I understand what you say, DR. I do find the photos not telling. You set a line for them and move your officers to another line. If they cross their line and approach, you chase them away.

I do not like the timing of this and the de-stabilizing features. It does not feel right and it looks staged.

#8  Right place - Wrong time - Nice dress though - Reminded me of the delousing station photos from WWII.

#7  That's a lot of mace for one woman.

If one person can make the police sh*t their pants like that, they will surely all die of nervous diarhea.

#6  Anyone have the backstory on this? Was the woman doing something?

Sorry but this kind of reminds me of the old lady at the Occupy-Seattle which was pepper-sprayed (for good reason) - but the media hyped it up as an over-reaction by the Seattle Police.

#5  I tidied the article up a bit.

#3  Sounds like he's following Obama, closely.
Too bad, there should be people NOT following Obama, he's not worth it.

#2  Pepper-spraying an unarmed woman who simply stands there is not the way to advance peace, order or good government.

The opposition in Turkey may have failed at the ballot box, but that does not mean that Erdogan has carte blanche to change Turkey as he sees fit. He proclaims himself to be a 'servant' of the people and yet is acting as an arrogant master, telling all that those who voted against him do not matter.

They matter. This woman matters.

Re-read the Declaration of Independence. We are ALL endowed with inalienable rights. This woman was exercising hers.

#1  Is this the most opportune time to destabilize Turkey for an occupy movement with no bearing or Doctrine?

You failed at the Ballot box every time and for some reason, the Islamic parties are seen as less corrupt. Can you tell me why?

WE are at War, I do not like totalitarians just as you may not, but anything Soros is Evil.

Out.
