Buddhist Mobs Attack Muslim Homes In Myanmar, One Dead
2013-05-30
(Rooters) - Security forces struggled to control Buddhist mobs who burned Mohammedan homes on Wednesday for a second day in the northern Myanmar city of Lashio in a dangerous widening of ultra-nationalist Buddhist violence.

Scores of young men and boys on cycle of violences and on foot marauded through the city of 130,000 people, some singing nationalist songs, a day after a mosque and religious school were torched.

One person was killed and four were maimed in fighting, Ye Htut, front man for President Thein Sein, said in a Facebook post. Police fired guns to disperse the crowds, he said.

#10  "...boys on cycle of violences". That would top a Schwinn Varsity with a banana seat for sure.

#9  I was in central Myanmar a few weeks ago, including in Mandalay where I believe things started, and saw muslims going about their business and several mosques. However, those moslems looked like the burmese and dressed like Malays. Which makes me think the problem with the Rohinga, who look like Indians, is as much racial as religious.

#7  There probably aren't many Rankine moslems in the area; as I said, it's in Shan state; most of the Moslems there are basically Hui who got forced out of China back in the 19th century for, horror of horrors, revolting for wanting the Manchu forced out in favor of whatever native Chinese they could get to start up a dynasty of their own.

#5  Buddhist mobs on the rampage, attacking peaceful practitioners of the Religion of Peace. And why, exactly? The article hints: Buddhists who rampaged after hearing reports of a Muslim man setting a Buddhist woman on fire. Ah, 'reports', as in rumors, hearsay, gossip.

Once upon a time, the name Rooters actually stood for reporting. Sure, journalism bees hard, but would it be too much trouble to actually verify these 'reports'?

#4  IJN was msotly Shintoist not Budhist. Budhists are like Christians peceful until they tire of Mulisms' constant agressions

Tell that to the Imperial Japanese Navy

#2  True morality, as distinct from invented ones, is based on reciprocity.
