#3  Most of the Left aren't really leftist. True Leftists are a small, hardcore lot who know exactly what they are doing.

The emotional voters here are the squishy, low-information middle. These people do not know, and do not want to know what is going on. But they do respond to an emotional appeal. They Left knows this. The Right just wants to ignore it and pretend that discussions of Keynesiam vs. Monetarism will eventually bring these people around. Won't happen.

Reagan knew how to reach the squishy, emotional middle. Current Republican leadership just wants to give them handouts.
