US Senate C'tee: US Will Assist Israel If It Attacks Iran

It may be symbolic, but its the right symbol, aimed by the Democrat-controlled Senate at the Democratic president who might think of having other ideas when the time comes.
[Jpost] Resolution to provide diplomatic, economic and military support to Israel if the Jewish State is forced to act militarily against Iranian nuclear program adopted by US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

On Israel's 65th Independence Day, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee adopted "Senate Resolution 65," stipulating that the US will assist Israel diplomatically, economically and militarily if the Jewish state is compelled to take military action against Iran "in its defense of its territory, people, and existence."

 (R-SC) sponsored Tuesday's resolution, which garnered a bipartisan group of 79 co-sponsors. The resolution also emphasizes that the US must be committed to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

"The Senate Foreign Relations Committee has sent a very clear and enormously important message of solidarity with Israel against the Iranian nuclear threat--which endangers American, Israeli, and international security," the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) said in a statement.

"AIPAC urges the full Senate to act expeditiously to adopt the resolution."

#4  Would congress declare war on Iran with a veto proof majority against the will of the president?

Would congress swiftly impeach, convict and remove a president who refused to come to Israel's aid?

All of the above is highly unlikely, and the power of the purse can constrain but not compel action.

This resolution might be well intended but it looks like an empty promise.

#2  IMO Tel Aviv = PM Netanyahu + Govt. recognize that the only real way to stop Iran's NucProgs is via attack, invasion, + ultimately OCCUPATION, not just attack. The alternate is to get Iran to unilaterally halt its programme.

As things stand, neither the US nor Israel has any cause to attack Iran - while Iran is dev the capability, economies, or proficiencies to produce NucWeaps, it hasn't actually done so, nor unlike Saddam is there proof that Iran intends to give deadly NucTech knowledge to Radicalist Groups. In addition, both Russia + China are opposed to any Milaction agz Iran.

UNLESS A UN-APPROVED COALITION + MANDATE TO INVADE + OCCUPY IRAN IS CREATED, THIS RESOLUTION IS JUST PCORRECT COMEDY, AS RIDICULOUS + FARSICAL AS TAKING AWAY EVERY AMER'S RIGHT TO OWN GUNS WHILE DELIBERAT LEAVING US BORDERS UNSECURED.

SOLVING A PROB BY NOT SOLVING IT, BUT WANTING THE MAINSTREAM OR ELECTORATE TO BELIEVE IT WAS.
