Indian Police Claim Arms, Ammo Were Being Smuggled Into Bangladesh |

[Bangla Daily Star] Indian police said yesterday they had seized 31 AK-47 rifles, an automatic rifle, a light machine gun and some ammunition in Mizoram as those were being smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar via India. Indian police claimed the arrestees are Bangladeshi nationals. Joseph Lalchhuana, superintendent of police, CID (Crime) of north-eastern state of Mizoram, India, told the Press Trust of India yesterday that 23 AK-47 assault rifles, the Browning automatic rifle and the light machine gun had been seized on Thursday near Lengpui airport in Aizawl, Mizoram capital. He said yesterday the interrogation of the three arrested people led to the seizure of eight more AK-47 rifles, 86 bullets of the AK-47s, 24 bullets of the machine gun and 699 bullets of the Browning rifle.
