Rangel on Guns: 'Some of the Southern Areas Have Cultures that We Have to Overcome'
2013-01-23
[CNSNEWS] Rep. Charlie Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Rangel
Congressman-for-Life from Harlem, who became what 20 terms in Congress turns you into ...
(D-N.Y.), speaking on "MSNBC Live" on Jan. 16 said that "some of the southern areas have cultures that we have to overcome" when it comes to gun control.

Rangel was asked by anchor Thomas Roberts whether new gun control measures passed in New York State should serve as models for other states:

"If you're proud of what New York has done, obviously there is not going to be any perfect policy or perfect law that everybody is going to agree on from both sides saying that this is key perfection but do you think that New York, and what has been done in this state, could be used as a role model for other states that would like to enact something of New York's model?"

Rangel responded by saying: "Well I hope so. New York is a little different and more progressive in a lot of areas than some other states and some of the southern areas have cultures that we have to overcome."

#22  Culture of lower taxes, less government regulations, government budget surpluses, less gun control therefore less crime, more jobs and lower consumer prices at Walmart. Granted, not as third world as Harlem but when you can't stand the liberal cess pool anymore, don't come knocking for entitlements from the "Southern culture".

#17  The cultures he wants to "overcome" have a lower homicide rate than the "culture" he comes from.

Yeah, but that's Bush's fault.

#8  According to Albion's Seed, English settlers brought four distinct cultures to America: the Puritans in New England, royalist cavaliers in the south, Quakers in the Delaware Valley, and borderland English-Scots-Irish in the back country. Each has, among other cultural differences, a very different idea of liberty and the relationship between government and the citizenry.

#6  p.s. I'd launch a rigorous scientific inquiry[1] about the connection between melanin deficiency and (the well documented) anti-social behavior historically exhibited by the, so called, "whites".

[1] Given the history of the AGW recearch, there are lots of scientists who'd be glad to participate.
