Unknown attackers shot and killed a television journalist for Vesti-VGTRK in Nalchik, the capital of Russia's Caucasus republic of Kabardino-Balkariya. Russian sources identified the slain reporter as Kazbek Gekkiev.Co-workers said Gekkiev had finished the evening news broadcast and was returning home when he was attacked. He was reportedly shot in the head. The TV station said "extremists" had earlier threatened to kill two other employees who were taken off the air for their own safety.
