Another Art Heist
2012-10-18
What ... another one? Clooney and Pitt still on the loose?? Dammit men ... check all the tuxedo rentals. Thay can't get far!!!
An art theft in Rotterdam has baffled Dutch detectives, driving them to appeal to the public for help in finding the thieves who stole a priceless collection of works by Picasso, Matisse and Monet.

The priceless collection of works had been on show to celebrate the Kunsthal Museum's 20th anniversary, until thieves managed to escape with seven paintings worth millions of dollars.

Al Jazeera's Andrew Simmons reports on one of the most audacious art heists in years.
Raider dear, please note for the next time you post an article that your comments should be highlighted (choose the text you wish to highlight, then click on that yellow-striped square next to the big G at the top of the grey area), and the URL for the article is pasted into the source box just below the box for the article text. Please also note that there are two drop down menus above the title box, and you need only click on the appropriate headings, as I did for you this time. Not a worry -- we all go through this stage; but it would be lovely if you went through it more quickly than I did, more recently than I care to admit.

#6  Steve ... I bumped into some old friends from London recently. They told me that Al Jiz is widely watched over there as a primary news source - and it's considered as very good coverage. It's a big change from the old days. I couldn't tell you how many US readers there are. Somebody in the ME ploughed a lot of money into Al Jazeera ... a lot.

#5  So basically what you are saying, Raider, is that Al Jiz and the NYT have switched roles. Not surprising, I guess. Things change. Rooters was once all about the news.

#4  Gromky ... in the old days Al Jazeera was a mouthpiece for jihadists. They have since moved on ... that news site now employs independent journalists from all over the world. They are rapidly gaining ground as one of the world's prominent news sources. Like it or not - things change and evolve. A lot of people from around the world read Al Jazeera now.

#3  Raider, I have great faith in your ability to learn...even while being beat up by a girl. ;-) In the meantime, we've cold packs and analgesics in the first aid kit behind the bar in the O Club, and if you need anything stitched up, Barbara Skolaut can handle it when she gets in -- as I recall she's an EMT, among so many other things.

gromky, it's important to know what the enemy is telling himself and his friends, the choice of lies being information of a sort. No one needs to get down in the weeds and the ditchwater of the Kos Kiddies, but that's why so much of Rantburg's news comes from local sources in the ugly parts of the world.

#2  And Raider...why linking to Al-Jizz? They're about as credible as the New York Times?

#1  TW ... Sorry dear - I'll try harder next time. Some big thug was beating the stuffing out of me. I assume it was one of Clooney's old girlfriends. But you'll be happy to know that I didn't crack :-)
