Report: Iran Transfers $10 Billion To Syria, Creating Rift In Leadership |
2012-10-02 |
[Ynet] The Iranian economy is finding it difficult to cope with the economic sanctions, but the extensive financial aid to Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneckal-Assad Light of the Alawites... has not stopped -- and is creating a rift at the top of the Iranian regime. Hugo does the same thing in Venezuela, with much the same problem... The London-based Times newspaper reported Monday that Tehran has transferred some $10 billion in support of Assad's war against Syrian rebels. Western intelligence sources say the failure to decide the Syrian conflict in favor of Assad has caused a split between Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Iran's spymaster in the past 14 years, Qassem Suleimani. |

#10 Raider, the Iranians have been organizing themselves near our southern border for the last few years if I recall correctly, and occasionally some of their people get caught sneaking in with the Mexicans. Before that, there was the occasional report of an Iranian uniform found in our deserts. The concern is not so much things happening out there, as I understand it, as things happening here at home, coordinated with the citizenry up around Detroit and such. A quick google of "Hizbullah in Mexico" will give you a starting place. |

#9 There's no doubt that Qassem Suleimani is the guy in the "pressure cooker" right now. Things aren't going his way. Regular people on the internet complain about Netanyahu and the Israelis starting a ME war - but it's more likely to be triggered by Suleimani. So what's his "best" move right now? He's under pressure - gotta' get results. One possible move is that he teams up with Al Qaeda and helps them stage big attacks against America before the Nov election. That kind of joint operation would pit Al Quds and AQ against America. Possible targets??? Maybe US embassies in places like Pakistan, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan. Maybe trains, hotels, tourist spots in Asia and Europe. |

#8 By my rough calculation that will fund the war for 4 months If it is used by the Syrian government. If it's been transferred for use by Al Quds Force (or Hesb'allah), then it may last much longer. |

#5 Times, quoting a Western intelligence source, said “Suleimani promised Khamenei that he would turn the situation in Syria around and has failed to deliver.” Link But you gotta subscribe to see the original Times article. |

#4 Yeah, I would think that a $10b giveaway from a financially strapped regime would cause a rift within said regime. Is it really worth fighting a proxy war when you can't really afford it? |
