#5  My point your Lordship is, for years the west practically ignored the genocide of the Khmer Rouge. I believe the eventual death toll reached into the millions. A bit closer to home we choose to ignore the centuries old 'restavek' (child slavery) in Haiti as well. It is what it is.

true but about the same total as for the 1982 Hama Massacre during the reign of Assad senior (estimates of total fatalities in that event were 10k to 40k)

also, the fatalities in this conflict have been running 500 to 1000 per week lately

#2  Total civilian fatalities in the Syrian Civil Conflict are now somewhere between 20k and 30k (since Mar 2011) depending on the record keeping and the definition of 'civilian'. About 30 to 40% of the total are subsequent to Kofi Annan's involvement in April 2012.
