New Orleans hunkers down to meet Isaac |

#3 It looks as if Isaac is going to top out at about 80 mph (per 5pm edt advisory from NHC). and New Orl and Gulfport sustained winds are likely to remain below 50 mph or so. Lots of rain, especially as the system moves north and then east. |

#2 This (pdf) is the current state of the flood protection system for the New Orleans area, for which Champ will undoubtedly take credit if all goes well. I worry about people living outside the system, who have minimal protection if any. Then again, those people -- shrimpers, oil field workers, etc.-- are some of the toughest SOB's currently alive on the planet and aren't going to sit around waiting for FEMA to stop by. |

#1 a lot of rain yes but Isaac is still a tropical storm as of 800 edt today |
