Former S.C. Gov. Sanford engaged to ex-mistress
2012-08-27
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he's engaged to the Argentine woman he secretly left the state to visit under the cover story he was hiking the Appalachian Trail.

Sanford was a rising Republican political star before he vanished from South Carolina for five days in 2009 to visit his mistress. Reporters were told he was hiking the Appalachian Trail.

The father of four admitted when he returned to South Carolina that he was instead in Argentina with Chapur, who he later called his soul mate. The international affair destroyed his marriage, which ended in divorce from his wife, Jenny.
Nice going Mark. You destroyed your marriage, hurt your life-partner, devastated your children, spat on the promises you made, made yourself a butt of jokes, and wrecked your political career. Sure hope the 'soul mate' is worth it, for however long it lasts.

#7  When feminists say marriage and monogamy are "outdated, patriarchic ideas," that's modern thinking hard at work. When men act in ways that mirror that sort of thinking, it's because they are dirtbags...

#3  my wife's best childhood friend's father was a prof at the local university. Tom had been rumored to have been a 'player' for years.

While my wife was in school, Tom divorced his wife of 20 years (sprung the demand for divorce at the celebration for their 20th anniversary - no class at all) because he had finally found the 'right one' - one of his students. a couple months after the divorce was final they married and the next semester she was completely stunned to find Tom sleeping with a student again.

Seriously, the man proved to you by his actions how much he valued commitment and marriage and you are now surprised? /gobsmacked

#2  i have seen many a 'serial adulterer' in my life. they on occasion marry the woman they were cheating with and later, after a couple years this woman who slept with a married man is surprised that this same man is doing the same thing again with someone else.

#1  I suppose if they marry, it is possible that she is his soul mate just found late in life. Unlikely, but it is something to consider. He certainly has given up everything he ever achieved to be with this woman.
