Fresh Kenyan air strikes in Somalia kill 20 militants |

![]() Mohamed Abdikalil, the governor of Gedo region for Somali government, confirmed to Shabelle Media the aerial attacks by Kenyan fighter jets, saying the war planes targeted on bad boy-training bases at Birta-dheer, located 18 kilometers south of Garbaharey town, the scenic provincial capital of Gedo region. A witness, who declined to give his name, told Shabelle Media that the Kenyan jets bombed at least 10 missiles at the area run by the Islamists early overnight at about 10:00 p.m. local time, causing more damages and losses, but didn't verify the number of Al shabab fighters killed in the air strikes. "First we have seen two jets flying towards Birta-dheer village, and after few minutes we heard the noise of the bombardment. The jets bombed Al shabab controlled area, flew past, returned to the same spot and dropped several other bombs," said some residents in Garbaharey town. Al shabab officials have yet to comment on the hapless Somali government claims. Kenya has sent its troops into Somalia in mid-October, last year in pursuit of Somali turbans, whom Nairobi blames for a series of kidnappings on Kenyan soil and frequent assaults on its security forces in the border province of North Eastern. |
