'Iran could accelerate nuclear program if Israel attacks'
2012-05-02
Former IDF Intelligence head Gazit tells 'Post' he agrees with Diskin that attack wouldn't destroy Iran's program, and could even accelerate it, while enabling the Islamic Republic to legitimize efforts diplomatically.

Iran would possibly accelerate its nuclear weapons program after a future Israeli military strike, former IDF Intelligence head Shlomo Gazit told The Jerusalem Post on Tuesday.
After the decade they spend recovering from the strike, they mean...
Gazit, a senior research fellow at Tel Aviv University's Institute for National Security Studies, made the comments in response to a question put to him by the Post over recent views aired by former Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) director Yuval Diskin, who questioned the effectiveness of an Israeli strike.

#4  IMO, Iran is prolly think that, ala the "Japan/Egypt" Nuke Model, + espec as per "Japan", it can have a PRO-NUCWEAP DESIGN, DEVLOPMENT, + TESTING PROGRAM, JUST NOT AN ACTUAL DEDICATED NUCWEAP PRODUCTION LINE.

Also read, "DUAL-USE" NUKE-CAPABLE SRBMS + LRBMS [MBMS, IRBMS, ICBMS] ONLY, SSSSSSHHHHHHHH, ARMED WID CONVENTIONAL = NON-NUCLEAR WARHEADS.

Ditto as per MilTerrs, i.e. possessing Nuke-WMD knowledge + expertise, etc. just NOT any physical weapons per se [at least for a time].

The Maha-Rushian Questionne' remains can the US-West + Sunni Muslim Govts-States + UNO [UNSC + IAEA] trust Islamist Iran to be a "responsible" Nuclear Power, wid or widout any NucWeaps, + can Iran be trusted to keep such Techs, etc. from violent-minded MilTerrs, Islamist + Shia + Other, + aligned NGOS???

#3  No such thing as a below zero probability, but our hero, former IDF intelligence head Gazit, fails to bracket the probability -- is it infinitesimally above zero or close to 100% (p=1)? Journalism departments around the world need to add a proper intro. statistics course to their core curriculum, so that they have eve a vague idea of what bloody questions need to be asked.

#2  Plus, if the Israelis attack, everyone will hate the Juices.

Exactly how this is different from the current state of the world is left as an exercise for the reader.
