| Saudi Arabia Bans Gays and Tomboys From Public Schools | |

| Gays and "tomboys" have been barred from attending Saudi Arabian public schools and universities in an effort to fight the "phenomenon" of homosexuality and gender non-conformity, a report from Emirates 24/7 said. The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice is charged with ensuring the immediate implementation of the rules, although it remains unclear who issued them. According to the report, "instructions have been issued to all public schools and universities to ban the entry of gays and tomboys and to intensify their efforts to fight this phenomenon." Banned students will be required to "prove they have been corrected and have stopped such practices" in order to re-enroll in their school or university. The U.S. State Department human rights reports criticize Saudi Arabia for abuses against the LGBT community.
