#2 A lot of people fall back on familiar terms of speech. I do it in my grant writing; I know it and I take care to edit and re-edit to find those terms and rub them out. What matters here isn't that he's using the saying 'punching above their weight' so many times, it's that NO ONE ON HIS STAFF TOLD HIM. Why not? That's what I don't get. "Hey Boss, that's a phrase you use a lot, maybe we should try this one instead." The man is supposed to have speechwriters, aides, staff, etc. There are people out there who LIVE for this stuff. They'd be happy to work in his administration. It isn't a failure of a trite figure of speech. It's a failure of his White House. |

#1 He just really doesn't give a fig about these people and just reads off the cue card. My bet is he wants to loan some more money out for green projects and go golfing. |
