Obama Heads to Church - Again |
2012-01-16 |
[White House Dossier] ![]() Obama has rarely gone to church since becoming president. But last month he and his family walked across Lafayette Park in front of the White House to attend services at St. John's Church. They attended Christmas services at a Marine Base in Hawaii and today were at Zion Baptist Church in DC. While it's possible the trips to church a part of some kind of renewed personal religious commitment, they are also consistent with Obama's increased use of religious imagery as part of his public profile. During two recent annual events -- the televised Christmas in Washington gala and the lighting of the National Christmas Tree, Obama invoked specifically Christian themes he had shunned in the past. The Christian narrative is appealing to a key demographic that decamped Democrats en masse during the 2010 midterm election -- white working class voters. Obama will need to bring as many members of this group back into the fold if he hopes to prevail in critical swing states like Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, and other must-win states in the Midwest and the South. The increasingly large doses of religion added to the Obamas' public profile has been accompanied by other Average Joe-pleasing displays of middle class virtuousness, like Michelle shopping at Target or the president heading to Best Buy to purchase gifts for his daughters and to PetSmart to get a bone for the dog. |

#11 He's a craven, soul-less man. |

#10 It must be nice to never be called out by the MSM when acting so political and shallow. We are sure to see a slow down of golf playing and an increase of 'rolled up sleeve' appearances. Next up skeet shooting. |

#8 The issue is whether BO and his attack dogs (like NPR) are going after Romney on the Mormon issue. If they are, then they've got to show that BO is a "real" Christian. That's a tough row to hoe, since it's obvious to one and all that BO only worships himself. He's the pastor at the First Church of Barack (donations accepted.) |

#6 You would figure that there would be a church of Moloch somewhere near D.C. Probably several of them. |

#4 What 'Christian' church preaches - to covert thy neighbors' wealth, to bear false witness, and to steal thy neighbors' wealth? [trick question] |

#3 NPR has been following us for a number of years, no mo uro. It hasn't seemed to bring us obnoxious Progressive idiots, not even during the OWS nonsense when they were itching for fights. And if NPR reporters are using us as an easy research resource, at least they would be giving more useful reports as a result. |

#2 Election year stuff can be very weird. We're going to see twisted stuff. Such as an atheist who has pretended to be Christian and who a lot of people think is a Muslim trying to get re-elected president, pretending to be a Christian again. There is this, too, for instance. NPR has an online dossier on Rantburg: http://topics.npr.org/search?q=rantburg I'm not sure how new this is but I don't think it's very long in the tooth. Any thoughts? |

#1 His previous Christian church experience cost him some credibility when folks started listening to the Rev. Wright's hate speech. |
