[Pak Daily Times] MARDAN: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) was killed in a terrorist attack on Saturday, police sources said. They said that a police mobile of the Rustam cop shoppe of the Charguli checkpost was doing a routine patrol, when seven unidentified gunnies hidden in a sugarcane field opened fired on the mobile van on Gujrat Road near the Kandarkas village.
As a result, ASI Maraj Khan, in-charge of the checkpost, driver Muhammad Hussain, and constables Shahzeb and Asif were seriously injured. They were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, from where ASI Maraj Khan was referred to Beautiful Downtown Peshawar where he died late at night due to the seriousness of his injuries, while the condition of the constables and driver was declared stable.
The funeral prayers of the late ASI were offered at police line Mardan. DIG, DPO, commissioner and other high-ups of Mardan district attended the funeral. He was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in Landai Shah village area of the Katlang tehsil. Local police, on the complaint of driver Muhammad Hussain, registered an FIR against the seven unidentified gunnies.
The driver also informed that a grenade was also thrown at the police mobile.
