The coalition says the joint force called for air support during the gunbattle Friday in Shinwar district of Nangarhar The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country.. province. The coalition says initial reports indicate that about 30 gun-hung tough guys had been killed. It did not disclose other details or say whether any Afghan or coalition forces were killed or maimed. International forces have concentrated on Taliban strongholds in southern Afghanistan in recent years, but have shifted their focus to the east along the border with Pakistain. |
