Greece approves austerity bill on first reading

[Financial Times] A protest by more than 100,000 striking workers did not deter Greek politicians on Wednesday evening from approving the country's latest austerity package at its first reading, by 154 votes to 141.

#1  Seems like one George Papandreou or another has been the Greek PM for as long as I can remember and that, sad to say, is a long, long time. Had to google him and found this writeup on Wikipedia. Explains a lot.
