A Canadian border alert has been issued to prevent hard-core U.S. protesters from crossing the border to take part in marches and an occupation of the country's financial centres on Saturday.

Officials have circulated the identities, descriptions and criminal records of hundreds of U.S. protesters to front-line officers at border crossings, asking them to be alert.

Police spokesman Mark Pugash said contingency plans are being drawn up for the event.

"Our primary goal is that of public safety and facilitating a peaceful protest," Pugash said.

Officials of the Canada Border Services Agency refused to speak about their security precautions. Border officers said many of those being turned back have been involved in previous protests and have a history with U.S. police.

Police said they expect several hundred protesters from the U.S. and Europe to show up at the Canadian events to show their support.

A group calling itself Occupy Toronto Market Exchange has launched a website to organize a march and events on Bay St. starting on Oct. 15. So far, more than 8,400 people have viewed the site that contains events that will be taking place in Toronto until Christmas Day.

Occupations are also planned for the streets of Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary, the organizers said.

#4  We believe in life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The Canadians believe in peace, order and good government.

The protesters are about to enter what is, for them, a truly foreign country.

#3  I'm sorry officer, but it seems like the bears ate the protesters. Sure, I could have shot the bears but, with them protesters being all environmental, vegan, smelly, lefty types, I figured they wouldn't want me to. Some of them screamed at me to shoot the bears but I'm sure it's cause they just wanted to give me bad press for shooting poor helpless and hungry bears.
