Chaos in Coahuila: 8 die in Saltillo and La Laguna

A three hour gunfight between armed suspects and Saltillo municipal, Coahuila state and Mexican federal police agents Wednesday morning netted one dead and four wounded.

Meanwhile in the La Laguna region of Coahuila, seven individuals were found murdered in several incidents, according to Mexican news accounts.

Reports are the firefight between armed suspects and Mexican security forces began around 0715 hrs in Jardines Coloniales colony north of Saltillo.

A second gunfight took place near the intersection of bulevars Colosio and Venustiano Carranza. Bulevar Venustiano Carranza is a major artery in Saltillo.

The last confrontation took place near the intersection of Bulevar Valdez Sanchez and Carretera Los Gonzalez.

The toll in the shootings was one civilian dead, three police agents wounded and an unidentified woman who was wounded by gunfire in her arm.

The Mexican weekly Proceso reported gunfights taking place in Mirasierra municipality east of Saltillo.

The ongoing firefights forced Saltillo city officials to plead with residents not to go out either from work or home.

Saltillo is the capital of Coahuila state.

Meanwhile in the La Laguna region of Coahuila:
  • Four individuals, two couples, were found hanging from a bridge near the intersection of Bulevar Revolucion and Calzada Cuauhtemoc in Torreon, Coahuila. Reports do not detail how the victims died. One of the victims had a La Santa Muerte tattoo on his chest.

  • Two severed heads were found inside a compact car near the intersection of Avenida Morelos and Calle Degollado near the Zaragoza shopping center in Torreon, Coahuila. Both victims had tattoos on their person.

  • In Gomez Palacio, Durango, a used car dealer was shot to death at his residence in Fidel Velazquez colpony.

The La Laguna region includes the twin cities of Torreon, Coahuila and Gomez Palacio, Durango. The area also includes Ciudad Lerdo, Durango. It sits astride the main east-west road artery in northern Mexico.
