'Al Qathafi Forces Are Fighting for a Lost Cause' NATO Chief Says |
2011-10-08 |
[Tripoli Post] In the opinion of NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis.... chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen, after almost eight months, the end of the conflict in Libya that began in mid-February is in sight, and the Al Qadaffy ...whose instability has been an inspiration to dictators everywhere... forces are fighting for a lost cause. Addressing a news conference at the conclusion of the two-day Defence Ministerial Conference in the NATO headquarters in Brussels, Mr. Rasmussen said that he formed that impression after meeting and discussing the matter with the NATO partners in Operation Unified Protector and discussed the conditions under which the alliance could complete its mission for Libya. He said that the threat to civilians in Libya is fading away, adding that, "the recent positive developments in Libya are irreversible." Mr. Rasmussen pointed out that NATO is determined to pursue its operation as long as threats persist, "but to end it as soon as conditions permit. So we stand ready to terminate the mission when the political and military conditions are fulfilled," he said |
