| Village leader gunned down in southern Thailand |

| An assistant village leader was gunned down in an ambush in Narathiwat province. Asman Jehteh, 34, an assistant village chief of Ban Tanyong, was returning from prayers at the local mosque on his motorcycle on a village road when gunmen hiding in roadside forest fired on him. The victim was hit four times and died at the spot, said Pol Col Phakdee Preechachon. The Narathiwat bombings killed five people, including three Malaysian tourists, and injured more than a hundred people. |
