#2 Peters and her husband were duck hunting on January 1, 1945 when a rifle accidentally discharged[1], causing a bullet to be lodged in her spine. The accident left her permanently paralyzed from the waist down, requiring her to use a wheelchair for mobility. Her mother, who had been maintaining a bedside vigil during her stay in the hospital, died later in December 1945. Nevertheless, Peters attempted to continue her acting career. She and hubby parted company in 1948. She suffered depression and her career never really got back on track. She died in 1952. |
