Bulldozer runs over man near Rafah tunnels
2011-05-12
[Ma'an] A Paleostinian man was killed Wednesday when a bulldozer ran him over in the tunnels area of southern Gazoo.

Locals said Muhammad Ramadan Sha'ban, 22, from Beit Lahiya, was sleeping when a bulldozer ran over him.

Medics said he died instantly, and police said the death in Rafah was ruled an accident.

The young tunnel worker's body was taken to the Abu Yousef An-Najjar Hospital.

All commercial crossings into Gazoo are closed except for the southernmost Kerem Shalom terminal, which remains strictly controlled by Israel under its terms of siege of the coastal enclave.

The tunnels beneath the Egypt-Gazoo border provide a vital access point for goods that remain prohibited, such as guns medications and ammo building materials.

#4  Not to besmirch the good name of Caterpillar, but every bulldozer I've ever been around was noisy as hell and slow compared to, say, your average Ford Pinto. How someone could sleep around one of those things is beyond me. So many questions, indeed.

#3  "The Ma'an reporters need more training, or a grant to study at the Columbia U. journalism school."

You need to choose, tw - do you want them to have more training, or do you want them to have less training go to Columbia J. School?

After all, "training" (at reporting) and "J. School" are mutually exclusive....

#2  What was the bulldozer dong inside the tunnel? What was found in the former sleeper's pockets afterward? Was there bad blood between the two gentlemen, or between their families/their wives' families? Did the bulldozer or the tunnel have lights? Were the lights turned off to save energy? Was the driver aware that the funny bump meant that he'd run over something? Did he realize that something might be human?

So many questions, and no answers, The Ma'an reporters need more training, or a grant to study at the Columbia U. journalism school,

#1  I'm curious if the victim was napping in a tunnel that was collapsed by a passing bulldozer, or if he was asleep above ground and a drunken 'dozer driver just rolled right over the sleeping dude???
