ISAF: insurgents 'under pressure'
2011-04-05 | |
Pressures on insurgents have been greatly increased, Isaf Spokesman in Kabul told a news conference on Monday. Isaf Spokesman Gen. Josef Blotz says the Taliban militants are struggling to retake the areas they had lost, but the Afghan security forces and the foreign forces have taken all measures to prevent it.
"First of all Kunar, what we are seeing right now in southern and eastern Afghanistan but particularly in the area's like Kunar is a serious partnered operations of the combined team Isaf and Afghan National Army in order to maintain the pressure on the insurgency in order to solidify the gains we have made over the six to eight months," General Blotz said. He said this is of particularly great importance in these days and weeks as preparations are made very thoroughly for the spring offensive of the insurgents, to maintain pressure before they try to regain what they have lost. Isaf believes the insurgent grip on some of the eastern parts will not last longer and the Afghan forces will soon be able to defeat militants. Six US troops and one Afghan soldier have so far lost their lives in the operations in Kunar province.
