Parliament Insists on Termination of Special Tribunal |
2011-03-27 |
[Tolo News] Lawmakers' talks with President Karzai on cancellation of election special tribunal have ended up with no results, Afghan House Speaker said on Saturday. During the two-day talks Head of High Court said withdrawal of complaints being made by protesting candidates is the only way to terminate the special tribunal. "There is only one way for a logical end to the special court and that is the protesting candidates to take back their petitions, (special tribunal said in presence of Head of High Court)," Afghan House Speaker Abdul Rahouf Ebrahimi said. President Karzai has pledged to end this dilemma after returning from Iran trip on Tuesday, House Speaker said. According to some parliamentarians the special tribunal is expected to try unseating 53 politicians. Parliamentarians accused the House Speaker of acting in favour of the government. "The Afghanistan's Caped President should take our petitions seriously," Baktash Seyawash, an Afghan MP, said. Protesting candidates have called on President Karzai to let the special tribunal finish its job, before it is dissolved. |
