Defense volunteer gunned down in southern Thailand |

A village defense volunteer was gunned down in Yala province on Thursday. Safuwan Sama-air, 25, was killed while working on his rubber plantation in Kampong Buenae village. He was shot in the head and died at the scene. Witnesses said that two men with guns, believed to be known to the victim, arrived to talk to him. One of them suddenly opened fire with an M16, and then they both fled. There were five spent M16 cartridges at the scene Two key RKK terrorists nabbed Two key members of the separatist Runda Kampulan Kecil (RKK) were taken into custody while hiding in a house in Yala province early Friday morning. After receiving a tip from local villagers that two suspicious men were staying in a house in Kampong Bangoey, a joint military and police force surrounded and search the house at about 2 a.m. The two men were found in a bedroom. They were later identified as Basri Ardae, 30, an important RKK terrorist wanted for killing state officials, and Muhammadsari Madaoh, 34, another key RKK member. Police also took one 11mm pistol found under Muhammadsari's pillow. |
