Bouteflika promises further reforms, including political
2011-03-20
[Ennahar] President Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third term, which is probably why Algerians are ready to dump him...
promised on Saturday a "new page in the path of comprehensive reforms", including political, APS reported.

After discussing the lifting of the state of emergency in force for 19 years, he had promised and implemented on February 25, the president, in a speech read in his absence in Mostaganem, 350 kilometers west of Algiers, said further reforms will be done.

"This will open a new page in the path of comprehensive reforms that (...) will not be successful without political reform," said President Bouteflika, in the text read by one of his advisers.

The speech was read at a conference marking the 49th anniversary of the cease-fire in fighting for independence against La Belle France, organized in the town of Mostaganem.
