1 Dies in Saltillo, Coahuila in 2nd Day of fighting |

For a map of Coahuila, click here Armed confrontations between armed suspects and the Mexican security forces in Saltillo, Coahuila has left one soldier dead and another wounded, according to Mexican press reports. Reports say gunfights between security forces and criminal gangs began at about 1130 hrs on the old road to Monclava near the village of Cañada Ancha, as gunfire was exchanged. City officials in Saltillo reported via Twitter accounts that several roads had been blocked in Saltillo using city transport vehicles, which usually mean buses. The roadblocks centered around mostly Avenida Luis Echeverria Alverez, where it intersects with Prolongacion Urdinola, Antonia Cardenas and the road to La Narro, and Avenida Hidalgo where it intersects with Pedro Aranda and Carlos Fuero. Reports say the roadblocks had been cleared by 1400 hrs. Other news reports say that in the same area Sunday grass fires were started which officials say were deliberately set. It is unknown if the grass fires were related to today's gunfights and roadblocks. |
