| [Arab News] The Saudi Embassy in Damascus denied on its Internet site on Thursday any knowledge of a Saudi citizen who was kidnapped in Syria, and said it would investigate the matter and exert every possible effort to come out with the truth. The embassy was commenting on press reports regarding the incident. "The embassy has not received any complaint in this regard or any information from the relatives or any other party that a Saudi was kidnapped and that the kidnappers were demanding a huge ransom," the embassy said. Local newspapers reported Thursday that a Saudi family had to pay a ransom of SR400,000 to the 18 kidnappers of their son who was in Syria for medical treatment. The family, which was not identified, reportedly said their son traveled to Syria last month, rented an apartment and began a treatment program before he was kidnapped by a gang. They said they lost contact with their son but received a call on a mobile phone from the purported kidnappers. |
