Obama makes sales pitch for his 2012 US budget
2011-02-13
[Arab News] President Barack B.O. Obama made a sales pitch on Saturday for his forthcoming fiscal year 2012 budget, pledging that it would help the United States "live within our means while investing in our future."

The budget, to be unveiled on Monday, contains a mix of cost cuts and targeted spending aimed at achieving Obama's twin goals of reducing the deficit and boosting US competitiveness.

But Republicans, who control the House of Representatives, have balked at any spending increases and accused the Democratic president of not being serious about reining in the deficit, which is forecast to reach $1.48 trillion this fiscal year.
But he feels he's being serious. Surely that counts for something?
The 2012 fiscal year begins on Oct. 1.

In his weekly radio and Internet address, Obama highlighted his plan to freeze non-security discretionary spending for five years, which the White House says will reduce the deficit by $400 billion over the next 10 years.
Forty billion per year sounds like a lot, but President Obama's proposed budget is $3.8 trillion.... and then there is the $1.48 trillion deficit he already ran up.
"We've stripped down the budget by getting rid of waste," he said in the address, adding that the government would get rid of thousands of empty buildings and freeze salaries on "hard-working government employees" as part of the push.
Adding to the real estate glut. Smart! And freezing already-bloated salaries should help a lot. Where does he get these ideas?
The man is brilliant, he can't help himself. Did you hear he has an IQ of 125 and went to Harvard?
Obama said the budget proposes to invest in roads, high-speed trains, broadband Internet, clean energy and education. After a decade of rising deficits, Obama said, "I'm proposing a new budget that will help us live within our means while investing in our future."
Cutting the official budget by 4% is not what living within our means looks like. Spending no more than we take in is living within our means. Spending less, so that we have something to invest with... sorry, I got carried away.
Republicans, who have a sales pitch of their own to make, said Obama's budget was not taking the deficit problem seriously enough.

"The president's proposal for a freeze in government spending might give the White House a nice talking point. But it is a totally inadequate solution to our nation's spending problems," Senator Orrin Hatch, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, said in his party's weekly address.

"If the president's new budget simply freezes his last budget, he'll stifle job growth by continuing to spend too much, tax too much, and borrow too much."

While Obama's budget proposal looks to next year, Congress is still struggling to pass legislation to run the government for the rest of this fiscal year that ends on Sept. 30.

House Republicans on Friday unveiled a plan that would impose immediate cuts of roughly 25 percent on the government's nonmilitary operations, setting up a brawl with Obama and the Democratic-led Senate that could lead to a government shutdown.

"Republicans are focused on creating a better environment for economic growth and job creation," House Speaker John It is not pronounced 'Boner!' Boehner
... the occasionally weepy leader of House Republicans...
said of the spending cuts to be debated next week on the House floor. "To do that, we need to liberate our economy from the shackles of out-of-control spending and big government."

#21  May be, but his bowling score and pitching velocity are decidedly below par, so was his concern for the budget last summer.

Besides, with Joe 'The Fast Train' Biden as a peer even us most impressive would fall three scoops short I'd stay quiet about mine too...so smaht.

#20  If we're having an IQ pissing contest, show me yours? Whatever IQ Obobo actually started with, he started there and went far with it :-(. At times, I am in utter disbelief that he is POTUS, he is lacking many of the qualities that seem presidential, its like he is an imposter. From day one, his botching of being sworn into office seems beneath an IQ of 125.

#19  You have to wonder if that alleged '125' is adjusted for Affirmative Action.

Besides it's only slightly above average.

#16 125 IQ?

Big deal - that's not very high

Ah yes, dumbs Americans and those who rule them. 125 is not very high but it is respectable. Especially when you factor for however low 125 seems to those with stellar IQ's, about half the populus is twice as dumb as 125.

#17  During the presidential campaign whenever I went onto the internet there'd be an ad that said "Barack Obama has an IQ of 125. What's yours?????? Click here to find out." Occasionally, in conversation with someone enthusiastic about his candidacy, the issue of his 125 IQ would be brought up, but nobody could tell me how they knew this -- so I've always assumed they just saw the same ad I did.

Agreed with you all, it's what one does with one's brain that matters, not a test score.

#16  125 IQ?

Big deal - that's not very high.

Mine's a lot higher - but that doesn't make me special.

So guess what? Bambi's lower IQ definitely doesn't make him special either.

I don't care about his supposed IQ (how come we can know that, but not his grades, etc.?) - the only thing I care about is his communist leanings and actions.

#15  So I do not see what the BFD the pop culture makes over Obama's IQ.I have the same IQ as Obama, minus an expensive Ivy League education and have never viewed myself as exceptional. Is the fuss because he is a half African American male with 125 IQ? Its not genius level. People skew so much for our first "African American" president. The dude is half White, which gets ignored or maligned if mentioned at all. And just as well. I really wish we could just get to a post-racial place in society.

The mean IQ scores between men and women vary little. Studies that report variations in IQ between males and females find differences between 3-5 IQ points. However, males show higher variance on scores.

Racial/ethnic IQ differences are much more stark.

#13  Fire and Ice Hi; You are correct. I am a little crabby on this subject. In my world you can still speak your mind. Most areas that is. I have a friend who got out of Nam along with a sister after Nam fell(lost one also). He will remind me at times. He will say oh you can't say that where I came from. He also thinks were are becoming more like communists or his home country.

#12  IQ of 125?

How does 125 for women rate? That is my IQ, suppose its different for men and women. Heard men usually score high end or low end.

#11  You can start your pitch by resigning, Bambi.

Cease and desist! Any suggestion that the Obobo is incompetant could result in lawyering up. You wouldn't want to have to pay a settlement for defamation of character now would you?

No. U!

Thanks for the input.

#8  I do not consider His "HAHVAHD" education suficient, he was NOT taught "Real" things, no marketable skills, only How to live off others skills and wealth. And that's EXACTLY the problem here.
He now sucks off the entire Nation instead of contributing anything, He's a Parasite.

#7  Hey Redneck right with you on that "IQ of 125" but how did that information get out. Everything has been black outed ( verses white outed). If this is correct then my belief that he is terribly insecure is correct. The stress of being in over your head must be killing him. I look for a physical or mental breakdown at some point. This is the reason what he says and does can be so different. If he doesn't know the answer he tells you something you want to hear or you get the brush off. Two plus two is five. Sir two plus two is four. Oh!, did I say that; obviously it is four, I misspoke.

#6  Massive hiring, pay increases and bureaucratic overreach need to be trimmed by the Republicans, say, back to 2008 levels as a start. How hard would that be?

In a word: impossible.

I spoke the other day with a friend of a certain allegedly right-of-center Senator with whom we're all very familiar who himself usually does a passable job of relfecting forthcoming Beltway RINO thought and came away very disturbed. Apparently the federal government is not too large, the regulatory state is not too burdensome of businesses, we've clearly got to find a way for the federal government to do more to help people, and yes, we're monetizing the debt and that will cause ruinous inflation but it's the "only" way to deal with the problem. Of course those could be his own personal thoughts but that would be something of a first and not the way to bet.

Seems clear that the adults are not yet in charge in DC.

So what, I have an IQ (measured not Guessed) of 140 and I graduated Trade school as a Machinist
By THEIR standard he should Quit and pass the job to me.
(Disclaimer, I don't want to be President) I'm happy as a Master Mechanic/Machinist, If I want something I can MAKE it, he can't.

#4  local government employees (I'm an engineer for one) haven't seen a raise in years and won't for many more, and have actually taken cuts and paid more into our retirement....
and that's just the way it is. We are lucky to have jobs when so many don't and are suffering.

I see the growth in the Fed system and it just disgusts me. Massive hiring, pay increases and bureaucratic overreach need to be trimmed by the Republicans, say, back to 2008 levels as a start. How hard would that be?
