Three suburban police officers were shot to death and other other civilians were kidnapped Monday night through Tuesday morning in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, according to Mexican news accounts.
Azael Valdez Espinosa, Carlos Cesar Garcia and Ricardo Lozano of the San Nicholas de la Garza municipal police corporation were sitting down to dine at an inn at about 2030 hrs. when they were fired on by armed suspects using AR-15 assault rifles. Early Tuesday morning three individuals were reported kidnapped from a Honda Accord sedan with Coahuila plates. The abduction took place near the intersection of Avenida Rio Nazas and Calle Niño Artillero in the Altamira colony.
Reports say the abandoned vehicle and a nearby parked vehicle was damaged by AR-15 assault rifle fire.
Later that same morning, Nuevo Leon state police agents were sent to two locations on reports about heavily armed civilians in the area.
Several individuals were detained by the agents near the corner of avenidas Garza Sada and Dos de Abril and calles Santos Cantu Salinas and RÃÂo Nazas, though the number and identification of those detained was not released.
