#3 As far as I can tell, the objections to START were not over the strategic nuclear warhead reductions - the nominal topic of the treaty - but over language in the preamble that could be used to prevent missile defense work. I'm not real concerned about a nuclear war with Russia at the moment, but I AM concerned about being able to have a chance to stop that single missile from (directly or indirectly) Korea or Iran. |

#2 Mr Ellison was persuaded by letters, promises and statements made by Prez Obama regarding missile defense. Given the Obama's history of disregarding his own promises, etc., I think Ellison will be disappointed at some point in the future. In addition, the legal value of these letters, etc. is pretty close to zero. Once a treaty is ratified, it takes on a life of its own. |
