The attack began at about 2230 hrs. Armed suspects assaulted the police station in General teran on Bulevar Plutarco ElÃÂas Calles using hand grenades and assault rifles. While several police ere present during the attack no one was wounded. Damage was limited to the building, two patrol vehicles and an ambulance caused by small arms fire. The vehicles were set afire.
General Teran is about 105 kilometers south of Monterrey.
In Guadalupe, a suburb of Monterrey, a Mexican Army unit rescued seven kidnapping victims, seized a quantity of contraband and arrested nine criminal suspects.
The rescue near the intersection of calles Leandro Valle and Servando Canales in the José Luis Mora colony began when kidnappers were caught with two victims in a van who were bound with handcuffs and gagged with tape.
Five more victims were found in a nearby safe house. No gunfire was reported in the rescue, and no one was reported hurt.
Arrested were Luis Alonso Hernandez Bautista, alias El Guicho, Margarito Marquez Saucedo, alias Blade, Osiel Garcia Torres, alias El Sheriff, Jesús Manuel Hernandez Juarez, alias El Meme, Coral Gutierrez Zamora, 25, Jorge Alberto Salinas Cepeda, alias El Porto, Margarito Alejandre Mendoza, alias El Tolano, Jose Angel Favela Cruz, alias El Chuqui, 16 years old, and Marlene Anahi Martinez Juarez, 15. Two minor children belonging to Coral Gutierrez Zamora were found at the scene.
The military also seized four rifles, ammunition, a bulletproof vest, police uniforms, two radios and about 10 kilograms of marijuana.
