2 Taliban Commanders, 50 Militants Detained in North
2010-12-21
[Tolo News] In a clean-up operation in Northern Balkh province two Taliban capos along with their 50 fighters were jugged, provincial security officials said on Monday

Security officials in northern Balkh province noted that the enemy sustained heavy casualties in the offensive and 55 villages including Chimtal and Chaar Bolak are cleaned up and in full control of government forces.

Officials emphasised that Taliban fighters will soon be wiped out of all parts of Northern Balkh province.

The two local Taliban capos, one of them dressed in women's outfits, were captured in Balkh district.

Balkh Police Chief, General Esmatullah Alizai told TOLOnews: "Afghan cops nabbed the two Taliban capos who were hiding in a house."

The operation which led to some successful detentions was launched under the name of "Ebtekar" which means initiative and around 1,000 Afghan forces had taken part.

This is the first such sort of operations in which some Afghan female forces had also taken part.

An Afghan policewoman who was part of the push said: "The Taliban capo was wearing a Burqa and was sitting among women."

Provincial security forces said the Operation Ebtekar will continue until the complete elimination of Islamic exemplars. They said gunnies have lost momentum in most parts and no longer have the potential to resist government forces.

But Balkh provincial government remarked Taliban's fight against Afghan forces is not motivated by Islamic notions.

"They are living a worse life because they don't know what they are doing is not a noble thing. They are not doing it for God, they are not doing it on purposes of security," said the governor for Balkh province, Atta Mohammad Noor. "They just want to make people suffer and they themselves earn a living by using guns."

Government forces have also suffered some losses in the Operation Ebtekar. Two Afghan forces bit the dust while three others were hurt during the operation.
