Kidnappers release 2 Bangladeshis
2010-12-20
[Bangla Daily Star] The Afgan kidnappers yesterday freed two of the seven Bangladeshi workers kidnapped near the Mazar-I-Sharif town in Afghanistan on Friday night.

Meanwhile,
...back at the ranch...
the government is "vigorously" trying to rescue others and bring back the body of the Bangladeshi killed in an attack by Afghan gunnies on the same night, said officials at the foreign ministry's consular and welfare cell.

Deceased Kazi Altaf Hossain of Pabna was a Diploma Engineer and had been working as an asphalt plant operator at Samwhan Corporation, a South Korean construction firm.

A gang of Afghan criminals attacked a camp of the company near Mazar-i-Sharif on Friday killing Altaf on the spot.

Nine construction workers managed the escape the attack while seven were taken hostage by the myrmidons.

A foreign ministry blurb yesterday said seventeen Bangladeshi workers had been working for the Korean company since 2004. They were later moved to work in Afghanistan.

Diplomatic sources said, Bangladesh has formally requested Afghanistan to help free the hostages and bring back the body of the dear departed.

His body was brought to Kabul from Mazar-i-Sharif town, the scene of the crime, said officials of the Korean company in Dhaka.

The company has already requested the Afgan government to take initiatives to free the Bangladeshi hostages.

The ministry blurb said the ministry contacted the company's Kabul office, and is constantly monitoring the situation.

Besides, the foreign ministry has directed the Bangladesh embassy in Uzbekistan to take necessary steps to rescue the victims and bring back the body of the slain Bangladeshi.
