An formal alliance between the Sinaloa and Gulf cartels has released a statement saying they have 11 more car bombs in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon ready to detonate, according to an online story by the Mexican leftist weekly Proceso.
A car bomb exploded Friday afternoon in a remote town of General Zuazua northeast of Monterrey which wounded a police officer and a civilian.
Previous reports said the car, now identified as a Subaru sedan was parked in the police parking area sometime Thursday night. The bomb was detonated at about 1300 hrs Friday afternoon. Both victims were hit by metal and glass shrapnel.
The statement released to media editors complained about Nuevo Leon state police officials being assisted by Los Zetas criminal gang in abductions of civilians. The statement claims more than 1,000 hostages are being held by Los Zetas.
"The car bomb in Zuazua is against the hijackers", say the statement.
"Eleven more car bombs are waiting to be detonated to bring justice for the disappeared..." said the statement.
A total of four car bombs have been detonated in the Mexican drug war so far, all in 2010 and all within the last six months.
The bomb mid July in Juarez, Chihuahua was the deadliest with four killed and 11 others wounded. Two other bombs were detonated in late August all in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. The Zuazua blast is the fourth such attack nationally and the first in Nuevo Leon.
