The incident happened in Zheray district of Kandahar, two Afghan soldiers were also maimed, chief of 205 Atal military corps, Abdul Hameed, told TOLOnews news hound. The blast on Sunday was the deadliest attack on US soldiers this month. Security has tanked in Kandahar province recently, despite optimism expressed about progress in the war against Taliban-led insurgency. The deaths bring the number of US soldiers killed in Afghanistan to 486 this year, according to a tally based on icasulaties.org that records death of foreign troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are around 100,000 US soldiers in Afghanistan fighting a counter-insurgency war that is in its tenth year now. |
