Cabeza Fernandez Sprung for USD $1.6 Million |

Google Translate Partido Accion Nacional (PAN) leader Diego Fernändez de Cevallos was released November 20th from a 196 day long hostage ordeal after his family paid a USD $1.6 million ransom, according to Mexican press accounts. Fernandez was kidnapped near at his El Rancho La Cabaña, near Pedro Escobedo, Querétaro, May 14th. In the early going Fernandez's family requested the Mexican Federal government cease all investigations and recovery operations as the family attempted to raise the ransom. Unsourced press accounts said the family sold real and personal property attempting to raise the ransom. Fernandez was PAN's candidate for president in 1994 and was formerly president of the Mexican Senate. He has been a fixture in Mexican politics for many years. |
