Car of Intelligence Officer on AQAP's Target List Bombed in South
2010-10-30
[Yemen Post] Unidentified people bombed on Thursday the car of an intelligence officer in Yemen's southern Abyan province whose name was in a target list of 54 southern public security and intelligence officers and local officials published by Al-Qaeda in August.

The attackers planted two bombs under the car, parked outside of the home of officer Ahmed Shunai'a, early today, at 4:00 am, but none was inside or near it at that time.
This is not why Americans have garages, but they do come in handy when one's name is on a target list.
In August, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula AQAP, which has recently drawn the world's attention to terrorism in Yemen, published the list and said it would target the officers and officials in retaliation for intensified operations against its members in the country.

In recent months, it has stepped up its attacks on public security and intelligence buildings, security patrols, military vehicles and convoys and homes and cars of officers and officials killing dozens.

It also vowed to continue fighting the authorities and their crusader and western allies and attacks against their interests in Yemen.

In response, the government has been carrying out large-scale operations against terrorists, mainly in southern and southeastern areas, killing, wounding and arresting many of them.
