LRA attacks Sudan border region
2010-10-19 | |
[Iran Press TV] The Ugandan Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a perennial thorn in Africa's side gunnies have attacked a border area between Sudan and Central Africa, a member of Sudan's National Assembly says. "Sudan's LRA have advanced 65 kilometers into southern Darfur region in western Sudan and have plundered shops there," Mohammad Adam said. The Sudanese MP further expressed concern over the activities of LRA gunnies that are considered a threat to Darfur, which you'd think had enough problems of its own without importing more. The majority of the LRA are aged between 11 and 15. They are paramilitary forces formed in Uganda in 1988. The army has turned the lives of ordinary Sudanese people into a nightmare. The main goal of the LRA is to form a Christian state in Africa. ... the definition of "Christian" being pretty elastic... They have conducted different military operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Sudan and Central Africa. ... Pretty much anywhere there's money and wimmin...
The LRA is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and crimes against humanity. It took up arms in 1988 in northern Uganda, but has been largely defeated in that country, extending its activities into the far northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo about a decade ago.
